Common Types of Wood

Walnut
Walnut is known for its dark color, hardness, denseness, and spectacular grain. It makes wonderful furniture of all kinds.

Maple
Maple is strong, durable, and in my opinion, just brings a lightness to the room.
Elm
Elm isn't nearly as common as walnut and maple, but is beautiful nonetheless. It's softer than walnut and maple, has a swirly grain pattern, and can range from light to dark color.

All Others
Oak, Cherry, Cedar, Sycamore, Sequoia, Redwood, Hickory, Avocado, wood you didn't even know like Bubinga. There's just too many to even think about listing them.
